Book Review: The Secret Life of Cows by Rosamund Young
Apparently this book is supposed to help with those suffering with anxiety….hence the reason I picked it up. That and my inner dream of becoming a farmer.
This is a sweet book filled with short anecdotes of the writer’s cows and her life with them. Not just cows though, a few other farm animals feature and it makes for a delightful read. Though, with all the various cow names and family names and cow grandparent names and family tree names….it is rather hard to keep track. The little stories can go off on quite a tangent too and fail to come back round to the point. That being said, each memory is worth retelling and I certainly felt my time was well spent reading it. Whether it helped my anxiety, I cannot say.
The reason I have given it a 4 star (it was going to be 3) is because of the author’s lack of literary experience. Actually I am not 100% sure she is lacking experience, but the writing style certainly does (see above point about trailing off….)
